1928 Austin Seven, fabric-bodied
A rare fabric-bodied survivor from southern Spain, conserved in our workshop and now with a delighted new custodian.
Built at Longbridge in 1928 and exported straight to Valencia, this little Austin worked through Spain’s austerity years and then rested in a dry farm building for over forty years. Its fabric body, worn interior and original fittings survived in a way few fabric-bodied cars ever do.
We conserved it rather than restored it, so the evidence of its long working life is still there to see. Julian later brought it to West Dean College of Arts and Conservation as an example of conservation practice. Read the full story of the project.
