1869 Compagnie Parisienne Velocipede

Manufactured by:
Ancienne Maison Michaux
Compagnie Parisienne
27 Rue Jean Coujon
Paris

Frame Number 2635

This Velocipede has a direct connection with Pierre Michaux, for it was his company who are
credited with inventing the bicycle.
After just two years of business, Michaux was running into financial difficulty, the Michaux
company was then taken over by the Olivier brothers, changing the name of their products to
Compagnie Parisenne.

This velocipede has many interesting and original elements:
The frame number is in the correct position on the steering forks and both the front and rear
wheel carry the same number on their hubs.
The wheels are in remarkable condition retaining much of the original black paint with hand
painted yellow coach lines.

The iron frame also carries much of the original paint.
It appears to have an original saddle pan which has received a new leather cover.
All other components appear to be original and correct.

This is a fine example of a very important early French velocipede.
