1890 CMC model C Safety Bicycle
Manufactured by:
The Coventry Machinists Co.
Cheylesmore
Coventry
Warwickshire.
Frame Number present, but hidden by original paint and therefore only partially visible.
This lovely original example of a Coventry Machinist Company safety bicycle is particularly
interesting for several reasons:
Resulting from the demand for quality British made machines, large numbers were exported
around the world.
This particular safety bicycle was sold through the company’s Paris depot at Rue de 4
Septembre, it still bears the French company transfer on the rear mudguard.
The duplex seat tube is rather interesting, showing the progressive and inventive approach
taken by CMC.
It also still has much of the original hand painted yellow box lines.
It has a 19.5” frame, 30” front and 28” rear wheels.
A rare machine from the works of James Starley, the father of the British bicycle industry.
